Manchester City travel to RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday 4 November, kick-off 8pm UK time at the Red Bull Arena. It is the fourth round of the league phase, and both clubs arrive on six points from three games, each with a heavy defeat to one of the competition’s favourites on their record.
The case for RB Leipzig
Martin Demichelis’s side have 15 points from eight Bundesliga games: five wins and three defeats, 22 goals scored and 11 conceded. The results swing hard. They beat Eintracht Frankfurt 6-0 on 10 October, lost 6-1 at Bayern Munich a week later, then beat SV Elversberg 4-0 on 24 October and won 2-1 at Rot-Weiss Essen in the DFB-Pokal on 27 October.
The European record is just as uneven. Leipzig lost 4-1 at Como on matchday one, beat PSV 1-0 at home, then lost 4-1 at Real Madrid on 21 October. At home they have been harder to break down: the PSV game is their only home match in the league phase so far, and they kept a clean sheet.
They won 2-0 at Schalke on Saturday 31 October, their first Bundesliga away win of the season, with an Antonio Nusa penalty and a second-half goal from Romulo.
The case for Manchester City
City went into the weekend level on 21 points with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League. In Europe they won 2-0 at Porto on matchday one, lost 4-2 at home to PSG on 14 October despite two goals from Erling Haaland, and then beat AEK Athens 5-1 at the Etihad on 20 October.
The concern is recent league form. City lost at Aston Villa on 24 October, then 1-0 at home to Brighton on Saturday, Yasin Ayari scoring after 11 minutes and Bart Verbruggen making seven saves. It was their first run of two Premier League defeats in a row under Enzo Maresca.
What looks the smart angle
On Tuesday 3 November, Betfred and William Hill share the best partner price on City at 8/15 (1.53), with Virgin Bet on 1.52. Betfred are best among the partners on Leipzig at 9/2 (5.50), with William Hill and Virgin Bet on 4/1 (5.00), and best on the draw at 18/5 (4.60), against 7/2 (4.50) with the other two. Among books we have no deal with, Bet Victor go 17/4 (5.25) on Leipzig and 4.75 on the draw, and most of the rest go 1/2 (1.50) on City.
City at 8/15 implies about a 65% chance of an away win. The price has barely moved since the Brighton defeat, which is a lot of faith in a side that has lost its last two league games. Leipzig at 9/2 is the price for a side that put six past Frankfurt, conceded six at Bayern and then won at Schalke. As opinion, the 9/2 with Betfred is the price we would look at first. Leipzig score goals at home and City have conceded four in a European game already. City are the likelier winners on paper, but at 8/15 the price has no slack in it. That is opinion on Tuesday’s prices, not a prediction.
We hold no deal with Coral, Ladbrokes, Sky Bet, 888sport, Unibet, Paddy Power or Bet Victor, which is why their prices do not link out.
Elsewhere
Arsenal play at Slavia Prague and Liverpool at Fenerbahce on the same night, with Real Madrid at AEK Athens earlier in the evening. Thursday’s Europa League has Celtic at home to Besiktas, Sunderland v Dinamo Zagreb and Crystal Palace v Hoffenheim.
The sportsbook offers for a Wednesday in Leipzig
City’s price splits the three partner offers. At 8/15 (1.53) with William Hill and 1.52 with Virgin Bet, City clear the 1/2 minimum on those two offers, if only just. City do not clear Betfred’s Evens minimum, but Leipzig and the draw do.
Ad: William Hill’s bet £10, get £30 in free bets shares the best partner price on City at 8/15, and a £10 single at that price qualifies. Register with promo code R30, deposit £10 or more and place the bet from your main balance. Three £10 free bets follow once it settles, valid for seven days and to be used in full. PayPal, Skrill, NETELLER, Apple Pay and several other deposit methods are excluded.
Betfred’s bet £10, get £50 in free bets has the best partner prices on Leipzig and the draw, and it is the largest of the three packages. The first bet must be £10 or more at Evens (2.0) or bigger and settle within seven days, so a City bet will not trigger it. You get £30 in sports free bets and £20 in Bet Builder free bets within 24 hours of settlement, valid seven days. The deposit has to be by debit card.
Virgin Bet’s welcome offer needs a £10 deposit and a £10+ cash bet at 1/2 (1.5) or bigger within 14 days of registering. Its City price of 1.52 clears that by a whisker. You get 2 x £10 sportsbook free bets and 2 x £5 Bet Builder tokens, with seven days to accept them and seven to use them.
For the evening before kick-off, William Hill’s 50 free spins on Mining Pots of Gold needs code M50 and a £10 stake, with 24 hours to use the spins and a £30 cap on winnings. Virgin Bet’s 100 free spins on Eye of Horus and 100 free spins on King Kong Cash Even Bigger Bananas 2 both pay winnings as cash with no cap.
If you back City to recover from two league defeats, claim the William Hill welcome offer here and take 8/15. If you fancy the home side, Betfred’s 9/2 on Leipzig is the best partner price, though Virgin Bet’s offer also qualifies on it. Any view here is opinion, not a tip. Bet only what you can afford to lose.
