16 October 2026 – 18 October 2026 · MECC Maastricht, Netherlands · UK time
The Dutch Darts Championship runs from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October at MECC Maastricht. It is the 15th and final event on the 2026 PDC European Tour, and the first time Maastricht has hosted it since 2018. The draw is made at midday on Thursday 15 October, and the session times follow straight after it. There are 48 players, £230,000 in prize money and £35,000 for the winner.
That prize is not the main reason the weekend matters. The top 32 on the European Tour Order of Merit after this event go to the European Championship in Dortmund on 22 to 25 October, a major worth €750,000. For anyone sitting around 30th to 40th on that list, Maastricht is the last chance to get in.
How the weekend works
Friday is for the 32 unseeded players: 16 Pro Tour Order of Merit qualifiers, 10 Tour Card qualifiers and the regional and host-nation spots. The 16 seeds join on Saturday against the Friday winners. Every match up to and including the quarter-finals is best of 11 legs, the semi-finals are best of 13 and the final on Sunday night is best of 15.
The seeds, in order, are Luke Humphries, Gian van Veen, Gerwyn Price, Jonny Clayton, Michael van Gerwen, Danny Noppert, Stephen Bunting, Wessel Nijman, Ryan Searle, Ross Smith, Chris Dobey, Nathan Aspinall, Jermaine Wattimena, Luke Woodhouse, Martin Schindler and Krzysztof Ratajski. Luke Littler’s name is not on the published list of seeds or qualifiers, so the tournament’s top seed is Humphries.
The storylines
Clayton is the defending champion. He beat Niko Springer 8-4 in last year’s final, and Springer is back as a Pro Tour qualifier. The recent winners’ list is a reminder of how open these 48-player events are: Josh Rock beat Clayton 8-4 in 2024, Dave Chisnall beat Humphries 8-5 in 2023 and Michael Smith beat Noppert 8-7 in 2022. Chisnall and Smith are both in the unseeded half this year, which means they have to win on Friday before they meet a seed.
The Dutch angle is strong. Van Veen is the second seed and the defending European champion, so he arrives in Maastricht with a title to protect in Dortmund the following week. Van Gerwen, Noppert, Nijman and Wattimena are all seeded, Dirk van Duijvenbode, Niels Zonneveld and Jeffrey de Graaf are among the Pro Tour qualifiers, and four more host-nation places were still to be confirmed when the field was published. A home crowd at a European Tour event is loud, and Dutch players have it in their favour here.
The unseeded half also has names who would be seeds in a weaker year: Rob Cross, Damon Heta, Joe Cullen, Kim Huybrechts, Ricardo Pietreczko and Sebastian Białecki, who led the Development Tour Order of Merit going into its final events this month. Best-of-11 is short enough that a seed who starts slowly on Saturday can be out before the evening session.
What looks the smart angle
We do not have an outright market from a partner bookmaker yet. Prices for European Tour events tend to appear after the Thursday draw, once the bracket is set, so there is no odds block on this page. We will not quote a price we cannot source.
Without prices, our view rests on form and format. Humphries is the top seed, but he lost the 2023 final here, and best-of-11 cuts the gap between a seed and a good qualifier. Van Veen has the most to play for in the week before Dortmund. Clayton has reached the last two finals here. If you want an outsider, the unseeded half holds two former winners in Chisnall and Smith. This is opinion, not a tip, and the draw on Thursday will change the picture.
Elsewhere
The Premier League returns on Saturday 17 October with Everton v Chelsea at lunchtime and Newcastle v Aston Villa in the evening, and Leeds host Manchester United on Sunday. In Frankfurt, Eintracht host Köln on the Friday night. The Northern Ireland Open snooker starts in Belfast on Sunday 18 October.
The sportsbook offers for a darts weekend
Darts has one quirk that matters for welcome offers: a seed against a qualifier can be priced very short, sometimes shorter than the minimum odds an offer allows. Check the price before you place the qualifying bet.
Ad: Virgin Bet’s bet £10, get £20 in free bets plus 2 x £5 Bet Builder tokens has the longest window. You get 14 days from registering to deposit £10 and place a £10+ cash bet at 1/2 (1.5) or bigger, which covers this event, the European Championship the week after and the football in between. The free bets have to be accepted from a pop-up within 7 days and used within 7 days. The two £5 Bet Builder tokens need a single selection at Evens or bigger.
William Hill’s bet £10, get £30 in free bets uses the same 1/2 bar. Register with promo code R30, deposit £10 or more and place a £10 single from your main balance on any sports market. Three £10 free bets follow settlement, valid 7 days and to be used in full. PayPal, Apple Pay, Skrill, NETELLER and several other deposit methods are excluded, so use a debit card.
Betfred’s bet £10, get £50 in free bets is the largest of the three, but its qualifying bet must be at Evens (2.0) or bigger and settle within 7 days. A heavy favourite in a Saturday match will not clear that. An underdog, a qualifier, or the outright market once it opens will. You must deposit by debit card, and the £50 arrives as £30 in sports free bets and £20 in Bet Builder free bets within 24 hours of settlement, with a 7-day expiry.
Between sessions, Virgin Bet also runs 100 free spins on Eye of Horus and 100 free spins on King Kong Cash Even Bigger Bananas 2. Both need a £10 deposit and £10 wagered on slots, and winnings pay as cash with no cap. William Hill’s 50 free spins on Mining Pots of Gold needs code M50 and a £10 stake. It is the tighter deal: the spins expire 24 hours after issue and the most you can redeem is £30.
Everything above is opinion on the field, not a prediction. If you want to follow the weekend into Dortmund, claim the Virgin Bet welcome offer here, since its 14-day window runs past both events.
